Tragedy struck in Sri Lanka as a military helicopter crashed into a reservoir, claiming the lives of five people. The incident occurred during a routine transport of army and air force personnel to a military pass out event in Maduru Oya, located 280 kilometers northeast of the capital, Colombo.
Air force spokesperson Eranda Geeganage confirmed that the helicopter, carrying a total of 12 individuals, plummeted into the reservoir. Despite prompt recovery efforts, the crash resulted in the deaths of three army personnel and two from the air force, who succumbed to their injuries at a nearby hospital.
As the investigation into the cause of the crash begins, questions loom over the safety protocols and operational factors that may have contributed to this tragic accident.
